Airedale – Communities that Work is a two year programme of bespoke employment and skills support for Airedale residents to help their move into work, education or training. For those not job ready we will create a pathway into continued job search activities or develop options for volunteering or placement.
To identify and engage participants, we have deployed a Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) in Airedale who is based at The Hut. Their role is to build relationships in the local community, create opportunities that help people get active and to refer people, who are looking for work or to improve their skills, into our bespoke employment and skills offer. Our CEC has already facilitated community events and activities working in partnership with the team at The Hut and other WMDC officers. This role is key in the project delivery and forms part of the in kind match funding required for the PEAT programme.
Our employment and skills offer will be delivered by an IAG qualified Community Employment and Skills Coach (CESC) and will be tailored to the needs of the individual. We will work with an individual for as long as they require support and help break down barriers through brokerage of additional support services or provide financial support to help with travel, childcare, interview clothes, PPE, training costs, CSCS cards etc. through our `barrier busting budget.’
It takes time to build trust with individuals but we will offer bespoke 1:1 support or informal coaching clubs to gain a knowledge of their personal circumstances, any barriers or challenges they may face and what aspirations they have. In addition to the `barrier busting budget,’ our menu of activities includes:
The Community Employment and Skills Coach will establish a network of local support providers to ensure activities are coordinated, referral pathways are appropriate and work effectively and there is no duplication of effort. The coach will also undertake employer engagement to identify job, placement and volunteering opportunities. For those not job ready volunteering can often be a first step to building confidence and skills. There will also be opportunities to develop work placements and tasters in the VCS and with private sector employers. Please Contact Andy Lock email@example.com 01226 272804
