Building Powerful Communities is part of the European funded People Enabling Area Transformation Project (PEAT) which is a Community Led Local Development (CLLD) Programme that is part financed by the European Structural and Investment Fund, and will run until the end of 2021 in the areas of Airedale, Castleford, Ferrybridge, Havercroft & Ryhill, Kinsley & Fitzwilliam, South Elmsall & South Kirkby and Hemsworth.

Building Powerful Communities is about developing third sector capacity, building on local community assets and resources through a programme of activity to support the third sector to become more enterprising and sustainable.

Support is available to new and existing organisations, and entrepreneurs who are based or operating in the above areas, to help them grow, develop ideas, try something new, become more sustainable, undertake facilitated Nova ASSIST (a diagnostic tool for organisations/groups), choose the right legal structure and look at funding opportunities.

The Small Capital Grants Fund will support the development of existing and new organisations and entrepreneurs, and is managed and supported by Nova. Small Capital Grants are to enable the purchase of equipment to ensure long term relevance of community assets.

Funding requests should be in the range of £1,000 - £20,000. However, requests over £20,000 may be considered by the panel and should be initially discussed with a Nova Adviser before being discussed with the LAG (Local Action Group).

The Small Capital Grant will cover 60% of the costs of the equipment, 40% match costs will need to be provided by the organisation. Match can be provided through other charitable grant givers, social investment, an organisation’s own funding (excluding other ESIF funds) or via bank loans. Help and advice can be provided by a Nova Adviser.
